Students produce and perform.

Lila Cormier and Amalie Selsmark demonstrated perfectly the importance of being earnest when they approached me a year ago with a bold idea. They would stage a theatrical production all on their own. No teachers involved. Simply students working together to act, direct, make props, publicize and stage the whole thing from beginning to end. The initial idea of a musical proved a tad ambitious but settling on Oscar Wilde´s hilarious The Importance of Being Earnest was hardly less daring. As it transpired, both students from the national side and the IB classes were involved in staging this production, and even more impressively, students from the neighbouring Tapiolan Lukio were part of the team. In the event, the show was presented on three consecutive days in December, with Tapiolan Lukio students as the audience the first day, the entire first grade of Etelä-Tapiolan Lukio and the whole of IB attending on the second day and proud family members on the third. Participants gained considerable experience and a new respect for the work of professional thespians. There are already rumours that another group of students is planning a different performance next year. This is something to anticipate with relish.
