General administration
Teachers can deal with study-related questions during lessons, or if need be, outside the staffroom. However, please be sensitive to the fact that your teachers also need a break.
The secretary can deal with such matters as:
- applications for bus passes for Espoo residents
- applications for railcards
- issuing student cards
- applications for study support
- registration for tests
- change of address/telephone numbers
The AICE Co-ordinator will post notices on the info screen, the Espoo International noticeboard (at the top of the stairs) and convene meetings of the student body from time-to-time. Weekly tutorials are one of the main vehicles for passing on information.
7.1 LIBRARY USE
Books can be borrowed for one period at a time from the library. A loan card must be filled out for each text that is loaned. Please be prompt in returning books at the end of the period – don´t wait to be reminded by the librarian. You should also be aware that end of period certificates will be withheld from those who have failed to return books. You may be invoiced for lost books. In everyone´s best interest, please be a conscientious library user.
Please observe the need for peace and quiet in the library space. Hats and overcoats should be removed. Eating and drinking are not permitted in the upstairs area.
7.2 SCHOOL RULES
Please respect the school rules. Good behaviour in class includes the avoidance of gum and other food or drinks. Hats and overcoats need to be removed and large bags should be kept out of gangways. Mobile phones must be switched off. Sterio units are prohibited. All of this should make perfectly good sense and therefore teachers ought not to have to remind students of the need to create a purposeful, busy, friendly and polite classroom atmosphere.
Hats and coats should be removed before queuing for lunch or while sat at the table. Please ensure that trays are returned to the hatch. The footpath, beyond the yard, should be kept clear at at times. Never be less than polite to passers-by. We are justifiably proud of the good reputation the school enjoys, and it requires commitment and sensitivity to retain this positive stance.
7.3 THE COMMON ROOM
This room belongs to the student body. It is equipped with a TV and radio. You are responsible for keeping this room clean and presentable. In the corridor there is located a coin-operated drinks dispenser.
7.4 STUDENT REPRESENTATION
Each lukio has a student assembly to which all students automatically belong. The task of the assembly is to represent students´ views on all matters pertaining to their interests – such as curricular changes, special events, purchase of teaching aids or other initiatives within the school. Indeed the student body must be consulted over all important decision-making.
The student body elects representatives each year to serve on a student Council that convenes regularly through the year and meets frequently with the Principal. Etelä-Tapiolan lukio is rightly proud of its record of active student democracy. In the current year the Student Council enjoys representation by Ruth Martin (04EN).
Furthermore, Espoo International possesses its own student committee comprising two elected representatives from year year group. Together with the Principal and AICE Co-ordinator this group meets as required to discuss issues relating specifically to the international students.
7.5 CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL CENTRE
Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) is the world´s largest provider of international qualifications for 14 - 19 year olds. We have been proud to bear the title Cambridge International Centre since the programme was adopted in 2001. Cambridge offers a wealth of material online, readily accessible to all students.
